Visual Artist
“I have been painting seriously since I moved to Beechworth in 2016, so my art is still very much a ‘work in progress.’ I am mostly self-taught.
As a child, I was always drawing, and as a teenager I was strongly encouraged by my teachers to pursue a career in art, but this was not possible at the time. Life intervened; I gained a degree in English literature, History and Psychology, and taught senior school students and adults for over 30 years.
Apart from a few life drawing classes here and there, I was unable to pursue my art interests and had neither the time nor a place to work. But when I retired, I finally had the opportunity to take up painting again, and I have loved all the challenges and possibilities that art presents.
I enjoy working in oils, although I am happy to try out different approaches and a variety of media. My latest passion is pastel, and I have recently joined an international online pastel group run by a Canadian artist. I am still developing my own style – I love portraiture, but also enjoy landscapes and other subjects. I expect that my style will change and develop as I become more experienced.”
